How hemodialysis patients can properly arrange dialysis and life (Part 1) – dialysis time planning
Hemodialysis, as a kind of kidney replacement therapy, has extended the precious life of countless patients. However, dialysis treatment is not only a medical task, but also an integral part of the daily life of patients. How to arrange dialysis and life reasonably in this special daily life has become a realistic problem faced by many hemodialysis patients. So how do hemodialysis patients become "masters" in time management, so that dialysis and life coexist harmoniously.
Discipline and self-discipline are key
Hemodialysis is usually performed three times a week for four hours each time. This time arrangement may seem fixed, but it provides patients with an opportunity to live a regular life.
1. Fixed dialysis day
Patients can negotiate with the dialysis center to choose a fixed dialysis day, such as Monday, Wednesday, Friday, or Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. Fixed dialysis days help patients establish a biological clock and reduce the inconvenience caused by frequent schedule changes.
2. Preparation and rest before and after dialysis
Before dialysis, patients need to arrive at the dialysis center in advance for weight measurement, blood pressure monitoring and other preparatory work. After dialysis, patients often feel physically tired and need proper rest. Therefore, patients can regard the time before and after dialysis as a "special period", and plan the activities of this period in advance, such as reading, listening to music, napping, etc., in order to relieve tension and promote physical and mental recovery.
3. Weight management
During dialysis, patients should strictly control their weight gain to avoid complications caused by excessive weight gain during dialysis. Patients can measure their weight at a fixed time every day, such as after getting up in the morning, emptying urine and feces, and weighing in an empty stomach. Controlling weight gain to less than 1 kg per day will help maintain the effect of dialysis and reduce physical discomfort.
